Marian opened the new ski racing season competing against Walled Lake Central and Ladywood/Shrine/Sacred Heart co-op in slalom. The Mustang’s are replacing three All-State and five of their six total varsity starters from last season. The very young squad had many positive results to build from going into tomorrow’s giant slalom races.
Senior captain Madison Rosiek skied very well in her new leadership role. Madison finished a career best 9th overall. Sophomore Emily Anschuets getting a new varsity start is already showing that she is looking at a successful season with a 15th overall. Fellow sophomore Audrey Sawmiller finished with a solid 39th. Marian’s final scoring athlete starting in her first race ever as a skier, freshman Laura Everson, took 42nd. Also starting in her first career race, freshman Kara Sigler took 58th. Returning sophomore Lauren Scolari had an unexpected night going out first for the team but ultimately having a DNF on the evening. Marian’s young new varsity racers, Emily, Audrey, Laura and Kara shook their first run nerves and all improved their overall position in the second run.
The second portion of the weeks competition is Wednesday at Alpine Valley. The Mustangs will be racing GS.
