Game Recap
Marian held off a late rally by Cranbrook-Kingswood to earn a 13-10 win at home. Marian led throughout the game but Cranbrook dominated on the draw late in the second half and turned this edge into a flurry of goals with under ten minutes left in the game. However, Marian senior defender Allie Wilberding came up huge as she caused 3 late Cranbrook turnovers with her artful stick checking. Marian also did an excellent job of controlling the ball in the offensive end which ultimately stifled Cranbrook's ability to even the score.
Marian senior co-Captain Courtney Hellyar led the team in scoring with 6 goals and one assist. Senior co-Captain KK Henneghan had 3 goals.
Melissa Barnes, Gretchen Klein, Sarah Peterson and Colleen Grombala each had 1 goal.
Allie Wilberding also scooped up 3 ground balls and assisted on a goal.
Melissa Barnes, Gretchen Klein, Allison Roth and Olivia Hargrave-Thomas were also standouts as they controlled multiple draws and secured a bushel of ground balls between them.
Co-Captain Goalie Anna Thomas had 9 saves in the win.
Marian is away at Grosse Pointe South on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Come out and support the team!
